Mother’s Day perfumes: Mom Nose Best

By Adriana Ermter

Everyone’s definition of mom is different. Mine is forever linked to images of tied aprons, gingerbread cookies and gardening gloves. Yet nothing defines my mom better than one sniff of Shiseido’s woodsy, spiced floral, Femininité du Bois perfume. Comforting and familiar, it’s the invisible counterpart to her wholesome, outdoorsy spirit.

Spritz a little love this Mother’s Day with these five great scents…there’s something for every mom.

FOR EVERYBODY’S FAVOURITE NEXT-DOOR-NEIGHBOUR MOM
Dolce & Gabbana, Dolce
Swathed in cashmere sweaters and Lululemon pants, she’s the laid-back, brownie-baking, kid-watching mom every neighbor depends on and every teenage boy crushes on. Casually sensual with wholesome morals, she’ll wear this heady, earthy, musky, floral scent like another layer of clothing. $106, (50 ml) Holt Renfrew

FOR THE PAPARAZZI-OBSESSED, PINTEREST-POSTING, SELFIE-POSING MOM
Elie Saab, Le Parfum
She’s coaching from the sidelines, cheering from the bleachers, snapping every moment big and small (complete with a healthy helping of fabulous-looking selfies) and posting on Pinterest before you can even say “cheese”. Vanity’s got nothing to do with it. This mom oozes loving pride. And her infectious joy is as addictive as this crisp, fresh and sumptuously nutty scent. $85 (50 ml) Sephora

FOR THE QUEEN OF DINNER PARTIES MOM
Miss Dior, Blooming Bouquet
Light and refined, this pretty floral scent radiates a sunny disposition, engaging happy conversation and a sense of comfort and ease – just like mom. Subtle and delicate, like a fresh bouquet of spring flowers, it’s the perfect spritz for the consummate hostess. $82 (50 ml) The Hudson’s Bay

FOR THE GLASS-IS-HALF-FULL OPTIMISTIC MOM
Kenzo, Flower in the Air
Never frazzled, never ruffled and with her bobbed hair perfectly in place, this mom doesn’t just set up play dates for her kids, she joins them. Happily, laughing and smiling! For her, life is a bowl of cherries or rather juicy raspberries swirled into a dazzling elixir of flowers and musk. $92 (50 ml) exclusively at The Hudson’s Bay

FOR THE CAREER-MINDED, KID-CHAUFEURING POWERHOUSE MOM
Lacoste, Eau de Lacoste Sensuelle
Should you see her zipping by in her Prius, high-heeled stiletto to the metal, she’s most likely on her way to drop Scottie off at soccer practice before heading to the office. Focused with an alluring appeal, this blend of soft floral notes with sexy undertones works equally well with all of her boardroom, playground and coffee-dates-with-friends appointments. $75 (50 ml) Shoppers Drug Mart

Deborah Fulsang has spent the last two decades as a journalist covering news and trends in the worlds of style—in fashion and beauty, design and décor, food and entertaining. Her long-held love of fragrance led her to launch The Whale & The Rose, a destination for all things perfume-related. Now, when she indulges in a crazy-expensive bottle of fragrance, she can do so guilt-free. Well almost. It’s all in the name of research after all.
