Misty Copeland named new Estee Lauder muse

Principal ballerina at American Ballet Theatre was named the new global spokesperson for Estee Lauder Modern Muse fragrance

Misty Copeland, the first African American woman to ever hold the position of principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre, has long been looked up to. Being named to the Time Magazine 100 Most Influential People list and honoured by Glamour Magazine as one of their Women of the Year will do that. Though we have to admit this is the first time we’ve heard the term muse applied to the dancer. It’s also Copeland’s first foray into fragrance.

“Misty is the perfect representation of today’s modern muse,” says Aerin Lauder, the style and image director or Estee Lauder. “She is all about feminine strength, power, dedication and passion, and you see that in what she does every day.”

Misty Copeland follows in the footsteps of Arizona Muse and Kendall Jenner as spokesperson for the fragrance. The floral woody scent was launched in 2013 as a youthful fragrance for the brand. It includes notes of jasmine, mandarin and honeysuckle alongside woods, vanilla and amber for a soft and feminine scent.

Expect to see the Pamela Hansen shot campaign debuting this month. It invites the question “what inspires you,” and asks followers to #BeAnInspiration. We can think of no better role model than Copeland.
