Lacoste’s L’Eau: capturing cotton’s breezy beauty

By Natasha Bruno

Nothing beats the feeling of clean, luxurious cotton on the skin—a fabric that’s remained at the heart of the Lacoste brand since 1933, and is the inspiration behind the new Eau de Lacoste spritz. Not only does the creamy white floral evoke the natural fibre, but the bottle design of the new toilette likewise celebrates cotton’s simple beauty with a piqué-textured cap and its blush-pink cotton thread detailing.

It’s all about casual, breezy elegance.

Think top notes of white pineapple, mandarin and bergamot. At the heart: a bouquet of orange blossom, jasmine, and pineapple flower, followed by a warm vanilla-vetiver-and-balsam dry-down. This is a fresh but warm, light and accessible perfume.

To capture the spirit of the brand, the French brand has signed 38-year-old three-time Academy Award-nominated actress Amy Adams as its face. The charismatic redhead has been lighting up the big screen with her versatile acting, playing the cute, naïve candy striper in Catch Me If You Can; the no-nonsense Boston-accented bartender in The Fighter; and the amateur chef in Julie & Julia.

And Adams has a passion for perfume. “I love fragrances, I really do,” she says. “I have a collection and I’m really excited to be adding something new to it. I’ve [also] always been someone who notices fragrances, and I can often recall someone’s scent long after they’ve left the room.”
