Jet-set perfume with Jenny Bird
Adriana Ermter chats style and scent with the globe-trotting jewellery designer-slash-creative-director.
The Job
Designing beautifully intricate jewellery. “My job is centered around beauty: creating it, shaping it; how nice is that?” says Jenny Bird. “The jewels we adorn ourselves with make us feel powerful and pretty. It’s a very satisfying process going from a vision to holding a piece in my hands and then seeing women enjoy it.”
The Travel
New York City is the hub for Bird’s business, but she also spends time visiting her showrooms in Los Angeles, Dallas, Atlanta, Chicago and Paris. “I’m also in Hong Kong once a year to find new production partners and sources,” says Bird.
The Standout
The archeological city of Petra in the south of Jordan. It was “mind blowing,” says Bird of this travel destination.
The Perfume
J’Adore Dior by Dior. “It’s like a limb now—I’ve been wearing it since I was 16 years old. It’s such a part of me. It makes me feel like myself: rooted and feminine,” says Bird, who pairs the fragrance with her Moonrise collar, a beautiful piece which combines metal discs, beads and chains to dramatic effect. “It’s feminine and powerful like the scent.” Recently, the designer has been flirting with another perfume, La Chasse aux Papillons by L’Artisan Parfumeur, to be specific. “It is so fresh. It smells of summer and sun-kissed skin and makes me feel free. It’s fun to have something new in the mix.”

The Moment
“Every time my husband hugs me, he inhales and says: I smell like me; I smell like home,” says Bird.
