Deborah Fulsang shares her favourite holiday scents

The Whale & The Rose team decided to get into the giving spirit this year by sharing our own favourite holiday smells.

Deborah Fulsang shares her perfume nostalgia and what she hopes to get in her holiday stocking this year.

My favourite holiday scents

It’s the scent of Christmas eve. A combo of notes—roasting turkey and stuffing, cranberry sauce simmering with nutmeg, orange and cinnamon, the Christmas tree in the room and a scented candle that’s burning too. Add in the perfume worn by my friends and family that have come for dinner. Oh, and the whiff of great pre-dinner cocktails like a Manhattan with its brandied-cherry garnish. This all combines in my brain to create my favourite holiday smell. I drink it all in as much as possible.

A refill of my go-to Hermes scents: Voyage d’Hermes, Bel Ami Vetiver and Santal Massoia. I’m down to the last drops of them all and I need to start my new year off on the right scented foot.

Deborah Fulsang has spent the last two decades as a journalist covering news and trends in the worlds of style—in fashion and beauty, design and décor, food and entertaining. Her long-held love of fragrance led her to launch The Whale & The Rose, a destination for all things perfume-related. Now, when she indulges in a crazy-expensive bottle of fragrance, she can do so guilt-free. Well almost. It’s all in the name of research after all.
