Deborah Fulsang
Deborah Fulsang has spent the last two decades as a journalist covering news and trends in the worlds of style—in fashion and beauty, design and décor, food and entertaining. Her long-held love of fragrance led her to launch The Whale & The Rose, a destination for all things perfume-related. Now, when she indulges in a crazy-expensive bottle of fragrance, she can do so guilt-free. Well almost. It’s all in the name of research after all.
Alexandra Donaldson
Alexandra Donaldson is the editorial assistant at The Whale & The Rose and a freelance writer and content creator. Although she recently took up yoga in an effort to be a healthy adult, she still binge-watches cartoons on a regular basis and dreams of running away to a cottage in the woods. She has yet to nail down her favourite perfume, but knows that it smells green, earthy and maybe a little bit spicy, but definitely not sweet.
Ashley Kowalewski
Ash is a writer and editor based in Toronto. She loves testing out all the latest beauty products and is currently working her way through a 27-fragrance rotation and has more pink lipsticks, neon Post-its and daily cups of coffee than the average human. When she’s not wading through the beauty aisles of her local Shoppers, you can catch her at a yoga class or watching endless hours of Netflix.
Adriana Ermter
Adriana Ermter is an award-winning writer and editor. The former beauty director for FASHION magazine and editor-in-chief of Salon and of Childview magazines is a monthly columnist for Among Men Mag and has hosted beauty videos for fashionmagazine.com and contributed to Men’s FASHION, Chatelaine and chatelaine.com, Flare and flare.com, Huffington Post Canada, National Post, thekit.ca and iVillage.ca. She lives in Toronto with her very spoiled feline, Trixie-Belle, and a fantastically large perfume collection.
Doug Wallace
Doug Wallace is a Toronto-based writer who began his fragrance wardrobe with a bottle of the now-iconic Geoffrey Beene Grey Flannel and hasn’t looked back. A big fan of scents by houses Lalique and Boucheron, he is currently having a fling with all-things-British, including Clive Christian, Floris and Penhaligon’s. He treasures the dusty shoulders of some of his more aged bottles just as much as he does the shiny young ones.
Marian Bendeth
Marian Bendeth is a noted Global Fragrance Expert and owner of Sixth Scents based in Toronto Canada. She consults with the general public, fragrance industry, retailers, colleges and media. She is also a six- times award-winning Fragrance Media Editorial Awards fragrance journalist and recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Awards at The Canadian Fragrance Awards.
Alex G. Brown
Alex G. Brown is a freelance culture and fashion writer living in downtown Toronto. She wears CK One daily because it's unisex. She likes to turn things on their head—figuratively, not literally—and leave people thinking. She owes her interest in beauty products to the Kardashians and Nicki Minaj, but not equally.
Marilisa Racco
Marilisa Racco is a freelance fashion and beauty writer who contributes regularly to The Globe & Mail, ELLE Canada, FASHION Magazine, Flare, Chatelaine, GLOW, HELLO! Canada and King West Magazine. She's an unapologetic loyalist, especially when it comes to carbs and her signature scent, Gio by Armani, which she has been stockpiling like a hoarder since it was discontinued many years ago.
Dilara Kurtaran
Dilara Kurtaran is a Toronto-based freelance journalist who has passion for beauty and fashion. She thinks that a perfume can reveal much about someone`s personality. A whiff of a perfume can take you to beautiful, mysterious places. Her favourite perfume is Elle by Yves Saint Laurent. She loves to discover new scents and add them to her shelf.
Jane Daly
Jane Daly is a writer with a fanatical passion for all things fragranced. She has an incredible perfume collection, and is also obsessed with skincare, haircare and beauty. She loves watching horror movies with her daughters, driving fast, and feeling the sunshine. She has contributed her beauty expertise on radio and television, and to Lucky Magazine, Huffington Post, thekit.ca and Postmedia. She will never have enough perfume.
Hina P. Ansari
Hina has been a part of the Canadian publishing scene as an editor and writer for close to two decades. Whens she’s not focused on her next article or sending an issue off to the digital presses, she’s busy exploring the world beyond her doorstep with the mantra that “later” basically means “never”. A philosophy that she’s applying to every facet of her life.
Karen Ashbee
Karen Ashbee is a freelance writer, certified dressage judge, rider and consultant for her husband’s business. Although La Perla has been her signature scent for over twenty years she does admit for having a fondness for ‘eau du barn.’ Nothing like the woodsy aroma of fresh shavings combined with the smell of saddle soap.
Nicole Lippay
Nicole is a fashion and beauty lover living downtown Toronto. While nothing beats the smell of a fresh cup of joe in the morning, she's particularly fond of vanilla, amber and citrus notes. If she isn't completely consumed reading a book, you'll likely find her scouring the city for elephant-themed apartment decor.
