Fashion & Beauty Director Julia McEwen’s Chanel perfume

What is your favourite Chanel perfume? We asked a roster of Canadian beauty editors. Here’s what they said.

We’re celebrating the style iconoclast and perfume innovator Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel this month in honour of her birthday on the 19th. For the occasion, we reached out this country’s top beauty editors and asked them to tell us about their favourite Chanel perfume. So stay tuned this week as we post the go-to Chanel fragrances from these beauty trendsetters and influencers.

Today, we’re hearing from Julia McEwen, Fashion & Beauty Director at Canadian Living Magazine.

“Although a few VIPs in my life have been faithful wearers of Chanel scents, mum wore—and still wears—Chanel N°5 and my partner is a Blue de Chanel lifer, it took me some time to find my groove in the Chanel fragrance offerings,” says McEwen. “The first Chanel bottle I drained was a sample of Les Exclusifs collection Chanel N°22 that I received at an event. I’ve since drained two others. The scent is very different, opposite even, to my regular masculine spicy and woody juices. But for some unexplained reason this aldehydic floral works beautifully with my skin—and I can’t argue with chemistry! However, Les Exclusifs latest launch, Misia, is in the running to take top spot.”
