Recognizing Earth Day with Aveda

In recognition of Earth Month, Aveda has launched its global initiative to raise funds for WaterAid Canada. Through the sale of its limited edition Light the Way candle, the national Walk for Water and global Cut-A-Thon events, the brand hopes to transform lives by improving access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation in the world’s poorest communities—and you can help.

Aveda_CandleFor the past nine years, Aveda has partnered with WaterAid Canada, and each year, Aveda creates a candle to support Earth Month with 100 percent of the purchase price donated to Global Greengrants Fund for clean water projects around the world.

This year, the Light the Way candle is made with 100 percent certified organic essential oils and the carton is designed by local children living in Mankara, Madagascar. The candle retails for $15 in Aveda salons, spas and experience centres.

For some perspective, the purchase of one candle provides one year’s work of drinking water for someone living in Madagascar. That’s a lot of bang for your buck. The single-wich product is a soy wax candle perfumed via organic spices from Madagascar—think spicy notes of cinnamon mingling with citronella, vanilla and ylang ylang. It’s a summery and earthy scent, perfect for April when you want to bring a bit of the outdoors into your home after the long cold winter.

Today, Earth Day, Aveda also hosts its annual Walk for Water, which takes place in 15 cities across Canada.

Earth Month offers us plenty of opportunities to find ways to contribute to the preservation of our nature and the improvement of our resources; it’s great to see a brand that takes this idea to heart every day of the year.
