Eau’d to New York Fashion Week

Eau’d to New York Fashion Week

By Adriana Ermter

In honour of this month’s staging of New York Fashion Week, we turn our attention to a trio of new Manhattan-inspired and runway-worthy fragrances that are tailor-made for spritzing right now:

The Eau: Calvin Klein Reveal EDP
The Vibe: Erotic and unexpected.
The Notes: Raw salt with spicy pink, black and white pepper, with sensual ambergris and orris, warm solar accord and cashmeran and sandalwood.
Calvin Klein Reveal Eau de Parfum sprayThe Design: Since it’s debut in 1968, the American brand has been renowned for its classic, clean and controversial style. From Brooke Shield’s everyday jeans and Marky Mark’s simple, cotton boxers, to the design house’s boundary-pushing ads and sleek, sophisticated signature style, Calvin Klein embodies New York City’s dual personality. And this spritz telegraphs that identity perfectly.
$85 (50 ml), www.calvinklein.com; at The Hudson’s Bay, www.thebay.com

The Eau: Elizabeth and James Nirvana White Perfume Oil
The Vibe: Edgy and sophisticated.
The Notes: Fresh and floral peony and lily of the valley alongside sensual musk.
The Design: Seven years strong, identical twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s design label should actually read: Made in America. Three reasons why: We literally watched them grow up on Full House; they’re bi-coastal (Hollywood/NYC); and they’re living the milk-and-honey dream. Accessible yet luxe, individualistic yet widely appealing – this brand (and the spritz) couldn’t be more home-grown.
$42 (30 ml), www.elizabethandjames.us; exclusively at Sephora, www.sephora.com

The Eau: Vera Wang Forever Vera EDP
The Vibe: Elegant and intimate.
The Notes: Warm peach and gardenia, refreshing coconut water, luxurious orris, lilac and creamy sandalwood.
The Design: The gold star designer of bridal gowns, Vera Wang has been sending women, including Mattel’s Barbie, down the aisle for over 20 years. And while she may have deemed herself the arbiter of taste during her premier Vogue interview in 1990, we don’t disagree. Born and raised on the Upper East Side and with a flagship boutique on Madison Avenue, Wang captures the magic and the heart of the city that never sleeps. Ditto in this parfum.
$49 (30 ml), www.verawangfragrances.com; at Shoppers Drug Mart, www.shoppersdrugmart.ca

Deborah Fulsang has spent the last two decades as a journalist covering news and trends in the worlds of style—in fashion and beauty, design and décor, food and entertaining. Her long-held love of fragrance led her to launch The Whale & The Rose, a destination for all things perfume-related. Now, when she indulges in a crazy-expensive bottle of fragrance, she can do so guilt-free. Well almost. It’s all in the name of research after all.
