Raonic and Bouchard make Canada Day extra fabulous at Wimbledon
By Deborah Fulsang
It’s day eight at Wimbledon, the tennis world’s most prestigious Grand Slam tournament, and the Canadians are shining bright.
Milos Raonic, who grew up in Thornhill, ON, bested Kei Nishikori this morning to move to the quarter-finals. And it was Montreal-born Eugenie Bouchard who also beat France’s Alize Cornet yesterday to advance to the quarters.
Two Canadians in Wimbledon’s quarter-finals: It’s precedent-setting.
We can’t help but think the two twentysomething Canadians would make ideal fragrance ambassadors – no doubt the magazine features are also only months away with the pair clad in Prada, Peter Som or Calvin Klein and in the fashion spotlight.
But what would they spritz?
Well, Raonic has had previous endorsements with Lacoste for clothing and fragrance; he now wears New Balance duds. Bouchard dresses in Nike.
Scent-wise we do think the calm and handsome Raonic would be a solid ambassador for a Hugo Boss scent, or even a chic French fragrance the likes of Lalique – or even Dior, if the latter had a new scent with an outdoorsy yet subtle vibe.
For the driven and talented Bouchard, we imagine a scent more feisty and American. A new Estée Lauder splash could be faced by Bouchard, or something by Michael Kors or Narciso Rodriguez. Fresh and energetic and all-(North) American.
Even before today’s match, 23-year-old Raonic held the designation as the highest ranking player in Tennis Canada history. Bouchard was the first Canadian to win a junior Grand Slam with her win in 2012.
So happy Canada Day. What better way to celebrate than with a couple of Canadians putting their country in the spotlight with their talent, tenacity and sportsmanlike characters? We just want their Wimbledon purses to include fragrance deals. How cool would that be?
