The fragrant memories of Aerin Lauder
By Ashley Kowalewski
The Aerin cosmetics brand, which launched last year under the creative direction of Aerin Lauder, brought us a carefully curated collection of products catered to the beauty minimalist. True to her lineage, Estée’s granddaughter could not neglect fragrance, so this fall, the glamorous 40-something beauty exec launches a quintet of fragrances, each as carefully composed and chosen as the Aerin lineup of blushes, lipsticks and eyeshadows that preceded them.
The fresh, luxe scents of The Aerin Fragrance Collection reflect the brand’s—and its creator’s—signature understated elegance. The scents reportedly come inspired by moments and memories in the beauty heiress’ life. Each of the perfumes is also housed in package printed with an exclusive Aerin for Lee Jofa design to further express its unique individuality.
THE COLLECTION
Ikat Jasmine takes its inspiration from the blue and white wallpaper in Aerin’s childhood bedroom. Jasmine pairs with tuberose, honeysuckle and sandalwood: the result is a warm, sexy scent that the perfumer equates with the relaxed, modern sensuality of blue denim and the universal appeal with the iconic pairing of blue and white in décor. This is jasmine with sweetness and woodiness.
Inspired by a lilac bush at Aerin’s country home, Lilac Path lingers like the scent of the blooms that inspired it. Notes of lilac, galbanum, jasmine, angelica seed oil and orange blossom meld together to create a fresh and green floral essence.
Evening Rose nods to the importance of the rose within the history of the Estée Lauder company history. Here, Aerin mixes Centifolia and Bulgarian rose notes with cognac, incense and blackberry. It’s a confident and bold recipe, luxurious and surprising and meant to reflect a woman with the same characteristics.
With light and airy floral notes of gardenia—the first flower that Aerin fell in love with according to the marketers at Lauder—along with tuberose and tiare flower, wet marine notes and amber, Gardenia Rattan is meant to recall lazy summers weekends spent at the beach.
Amber Musk possesses a warm and cozy character thanks to its makeup of ambrox, coconut water, rose centifolia absolute, benzoin and musk. It’s meant to evoke—or even inspire—a moment curled up under a blanket on a cool autumn or winter night in front of a fire with a great read.
The collection hits Estée Lauder counters this November for $125 (50 ml) each, exclusively at Holt Renfrew and www.esteelauder.ca.
