More scents to come from McQueen

By Deborah Fulsang

A decade ago the late Lee Alexander McQueen introduced his first fragrance into the marketplace. Kingdom was a demanding oriental spritz: with its heady mix of spices, some likened it to the scent of sweaty sex. The second fragrance, the softer floriental My Queen, debuted in 2005 in a beautiful violet-hued vintage-inspired flacon.

McQueen was always about pushing boundaries. And we expected no less from the man who gave us Savile Row-style tailored bumsters.

We’re delighted then at the announcement that P&G Prestige has inked a deal to develop the men’s and women’s fragrance business for the Alexander McQueen brand. “We believe it’s probably the most prominent brand that is not yet playing in the luxury beauty market,” P&G Prestige vice-president Luigi Feola said to WWD.

Scent will reportedly be part of creative director Sarah Burton’s design roster.

Reports are that both men’s and women’s fragrances are on the corporate to-do list. We can’t wait.

Her long-held love of fragrance led her to launch The Whale & The Rose, a destination for all things perfume-related. Now, when she indulges in a crazy-expensive bottle of fragrance, she can do so guilt-free. Well almost. It’s all in the name of research after all.
