A well-manicured scent statement
By Deborah Fulsang
A carefully chosen perfume and a sassy manicure: Now those are beauty statements that truly reveal the personality of today’s girl about town.
Recognizing that, Essie has teamed with Ralph Lauren in a limited-edition beauty offering that promises to help one express their individual style this spring, from tips to toes.
The blockbuster nail brand taps Rita Remark, its Lead Nail Artist in Canada, who has taken inspiration from each one of Ralph Lauren’s four Big Pony women’s fragrances and then cherry-picked a hue to match. She also suggests a customized mani pattern to take each particular polish from the merely pretty to the fully customized and fashion-forward.
PREPPY WITH PUNCH
If Blue No.1 The Sporty Fragrance, a crisp upbeat spritz with grapefruit and blue lotus, is up your fragrance alley then how about preppy diagonally striped nails in blue, red and yellow stripes to go with?
TART WITH A TWIST
Remark crafted a fancy checkerboard pattern to match the cranberry-and-tonka-bean-laced, fruity floriental character of the Pink No.2 The Sensual Fragrance. The spirit: Classic with a flirty, romantic spin.
HAPPY, FLOWER POWER
Fun, upbeat, sunshiny: To align with the No.3 The Free-Spirited Fragrance’s happy nature via plush pear and mimosa notes, the Essie nail artist thinks flowers would be perfect—in cheery yellow, orange and red of course.
SPICY WITH A ’70s VIBE
Big Pony No.4 The Stylish Fragrance is an oriental floral full of cherries and amber; sweet but rich. To match: Remark channels a 70s-style pattern in purple, turquoise, red and yellow.
50 ml fragrance and one Essie nail polish, $67 (for the pair), at The Bay and Sears.
