Calvin Klein casts Rooney Mara as face of Downtown
By Ashley Kowalewski
Rooney Mara comes from a family that is no stranger to the spotlight. Her mother’s clan founded Pittsburgh Steelers and her father’s founded the New York Giants. But Mara hasn’t let that American sports pedigree become her identity; she’s inspired a bold new style all her own both on the big screen and the red carpet. And now in department stores. You see, the 28-year-old actress and icon of cool has just been named as the face for Calvin Klein’s new fragrance Downtown, which is set to debut this July.
The Academy Award and Golden Globe-nominated talent has an edge and an elegance that has made her notorious—not to mention unforgettable, given her performance as Lisbeth Salander in the Hollywood version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Her first notable Hollywood performance in the 2010 remake of Nightmare on Elm Street put her on the map (and she was even in that quintessential breakup scene in The Social Network).
Having history with the fragrance advertisement director for this CK spritz, David Fincher (director of both The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and The Social Network), Mara was a natural choice for Downtown, which according to the perfume marketing execs, promises to be a fragrance for “women that live by their own rules.” Nice casting.
Catch Rooney Mara in her upcoming drama Ain’t Them Bodies Saints and the sci-fi romance Her, which hit theatres in August and November.
