Frédéric Malle’s new perfume ménages à trois
By Deborah Fulsang
Designer collaborations are terribly de rigueur—hello H&M, Gap, Target et al. On that note, scent-obsessives will be happy to know that perfume maker Frédéric Malle has linked creative forces with fashion designer Dries Van Noten.
In the past, Malle has teamed with some of perfumery’s most distinguished noses, from Dominique Ropion and Edmond Roudnitska to Jean Claude Ellena and Pierre Bourdon, but now intends to open a new chapter in his olfactory escapades.
According to WWD, he “has embarked on what he describes as [a] series of fragrance portraits of highly creative, interesting people, from fields such as fashion, photography, the arts and film.”
Malle’s first perfume portrait will be “Dries Van Noten par Frédéric Malle.”
“It’s not a duet between the perfumer and myself,” Malle told the New York-based journal, “it’s literally a ménage à trois.”
Reports have it that the fragrance will be a “modern oriental.” It debuts this week in Europe and in April for North American markets.
