UNDER-$50 FRIDAY: PRINCIPESSA PERFUMES

Principessa Beauty, Italian-inspired and Vancouver-based makers of sweet smelling and undeniably girly beauty products, has a line of four Piccola Perfume Oils—Arietta, Belloccia, Isolina, and Stellina—that are as cute as their names sound. And packaged in their mini perfume-oil rollerball vials with their mini, $35-price tag, they’re delightful, take-anywhere indulgences.

They may be mini, but the Principessa scents are in no way diminutive when it comes to their fragrance characters. Choose from:

Arietta: a fresh aquatic with marine ozone, citrus, and mandarin at its top; jasmine, neroli, and sea spray at its heart; and sheer musk and driftwood warming up the base.

Belloccia: meaning “irresistible,” this is a yummy mixture of peach and vanilla flowers, jasmine, ylang ylang, sandalwood, and warm amber.

Isolina: a powdery fresh toilette with notes of violet leaves and mimosa, rose petals and neroli, and heliotrope and precious woods, evoking a fresh island breeze. No wonder its name: “little island.”

Stellina: This “starlet” is a tropical-smelling citrus floral, which opens with orange, has rose and vanilla at its middle, and finishes with sensual amber woods and musk.

Deborah Fulsang has spent the last two decades as a journalist covering news and trends in the worlds of style—in fashion and beauty, design and décor, food and entertaining. Her long-held love of fragrance led her to launch The Whale & The Rose, a destination for all things perfume-related. Now, when she indulges in a crazy-expensive bottle of fragrance, she can do so guilt-free. Well almost. It’s all in the name of research after all.
