NICOLE RICHIE DEBUTS NICOLE SPRITZ
Not just another celebrity scent? We’re sure you’ve heard that before, but the former Simple Life’s Nicole Richie is branching out once more, this time into the world of beauty, with a debut fragrance called Nicole that the star’s authentic style and engagement with the creative process.
Richie’s been busy developing her clothing and accessory lines Winter Kate and House of Harlow 1960. There’s also her more recent role as a mentor on NBC’s Fashion Star—where, it’s been reported that co-mentor and New York-based fashion (and fragrance) designer John Varvatos passed on the contact that would help get her perfume off the ground.
The scent was inspired by Richie’s childhood memories of the scents her mother would mix and wear. “I knew exactly what I wanted to do because my mom would combine different oils and lotions, and the blend of scents became very special to me,” says the star.
Along with perfumer Steve DeMercado, the 30ish, red-carpet regular came up with a combination of blackberry and orange; Moroccan rose and lily of the valley; sandalwood, patchouli and vanilla. The aim was to create a new classic, says TPR Holdings, investors in the Nicole brand. Most importantly, the spritz stays true to Richie’s boho-chic sensibility.
Richie embraced the creative process, steering not just the personality of the fragrance but the packaging as well. Nicole’s faceted flask reflects the artist’s love of vintage and art nouveau style.
And though we may never forget Nicole Richie in her overalls alongside former-BFF Paris, she has certainly redeemed herself with her consistently chic, true-to-herself style as it comes through in her various fashion endeavours and now in her new spritz.
