New year, new perfume. Here are a few perfume launches…
What fragrance would Batman wear?
What exactly does The Caped Crusader spritz when he heads out to rid the world of evil? Or for that matter, what’s the go-t0 cologne on Mr. Bruce Wayne’s dressing table?
No doubt it would be invigorating. Sexy? Without question. Mysterious? Of course: You had to ask?
Inspired by The Dark Knight—and yes, we admit, by the talented and handsome Christian Bale too—we tapped a handful of industry insiders (and fragrance enthusiasts) for their take on what scent the superhero should sport.
ELIO IANNACCI (Features Editor, FASHION Magazine, Arts Reporter, MACLEAN’s magazine)
“Bruce Wayne would wear Chanel Platinum Egoiste. It’s a classic, light, day scent with sage, rosemary, geranium and lavender notes and it goes with the whole gold-plated bachelor routine he has going on. He can tone it down during the day since the fragrance won’t need to compete with the odour of rubber that comes with his uniformed night shifts as Batman.
“While crime fighting, he would definitely wear Yves Saint Laurent La Nuit de L’Homme. Aside from the potent, Catwoman-luring cedar wood and bergamot notes, Alfred—who naturally buys his boss’s toiletries—would consider the name of the scent to tie in nicely with the whole Dark Knight brand.”

ADRIANA ERMTER (writer/editor)
“This guy needs a scent that oozes duality. So it has to be Chanel Bleu de Chanel Pour Homme.
Not only is the fragrance a smoky, sexy, balmy blend that feels sophisticated and a little dangerous–all at the same time; it also comes in a dark, sleek and intriguing bottle. Kind of the perfect fit don’t you think?”

JEFF FARBSTEIN (VP and General Merchandise Manager, Harry Rosen)
“Tom Ford Black Violet is a great scent for Batman—it’s dark and mysterious, and is a heavier scent worn best at night time. Its counterpart, [Tom Ford] Grey Vetiver is a perfect day time scent for Bruce Wayne; it’s subtle, sexy and just as appealing.”

LIZA HERZ (writer)
“If anyone needs a fragrance wardrobe to reflect their different sides, it’s Bruce Wayne.
For quiet days spent on philanthropic endeavours, he would wear the Dior classic, Eau Sauvage, to remind him of his father, the late Dr. Thomas Wayne, who used the same fragrance.
As Gotham City’s most eligible bachelor, he’d choose something sexy and energizing like Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme—the better to keep one’s energy up when mingling with the city’s social elite.
And finally, as Batman, he’d have to for for B Men from Thierry Mugler. Not only would its raspy rhubarb and vetiver notes play nicely against the dark Batsuit, but the rubber-encased bottle would look completely at home in the high-tech Batcave.”
