What perfume does Sophie Grégoire Trudeau wear?
Sophie Grégoire Trudeau’s great choices in Canadian fashion has us investigating her taste in fragrance.
Sophie Grégoire Trudeau is wowing the world with her charm, smarts, unpretentiousness and positivity. And her style.
After last night’s White House Dinner, she has catapulted the image of Canadian fashion into the global limelight.
A magenta and persimmon-lace gown from Lucian Matis. A gorgeously ornate and floral jacket from Ellie Mae. A svelte pantsuit from Montreal-based designer DUY, Jewellery from designer Dean Davidson. Nude-toned heels from the Canadian footwear brand Aldo. And chic envelope clutches from Ela Handbags.
And so we ask, when considering the style of this emerging Canadian icon, what perfume does Sophie Grégoire Trudeau wear?
We have to think that this “one-time personal shopper at Holt Renfrew who reportedly helped design her own wedding gown in 2005,” according to Maclean’s Magazine, has definite opinions about fragrance.
She’d lean to the feminine, we imagine; something warm with flowers a maybe even a hint of down-to-earth patchouli—or notes of powdery iris with a bit of old-school French flair.
Digging around, it seems that Grégoire Trudeau has not revealed her favourite perfume. (Okay, okay, admittedly there are more important issues to discuss such as education and women’s rights around the globe.)
Sophie Grégoire Trudeau: “feminine power and wisdom and maternal energy”
We asked journalist Rachel Giese, who profiled Grégoire Trudeau in the current issue of Chatelaine, about it.
“I don’t recall her having a particular scent when we met,” Giese says. “It was midday and she’d just been with her little one, so she may have not put on fragrance yet.”
“She is very much an earth mama yoga lady, which makes me think of musk and patchouli. She is also quite feminine and I think very much identifies with feminine power and wisdom and maternal energy, so there is also a kind of soft floral energy to her too.”
We love that: “soft floral energy.”
Indeed, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau glows.
You can see it in the adoring photos of her with her kids and husband, the pics of her outside on Election Day clad in cozy grey knits, and in the sunshine with her hubby PM at a Jays game.
It’s no doubt part of the charisma that Michelle Obama, her new “soulmate”, connected with too.
We likewise lean to florals when thinking about a perfume that suits Grégoire Trudeau. Maybe something quintessentially French, such as a Guerlain fragrance. The new fresh and fruity Pera Granita in the brand’s Aqua Allegoria collection seems just right with its cheerful bergamot and plush pear notes.
Then again Afghanistan Orange Blossom from The 7 Virtues, the Halifax-based fragrance company with a heart that makes its perfume raison d’etre about supporting nations and communities recovering from wars and strife, would likewise suit this game-changing woman. Full of upbeat notes of orange blossom, freesia and jasmine, it feels simpatico.
Mrs. Trudeau goes to Washington and wows them. Did she wear a floral perfume?
Fragrance expert Marian Bendeth was also thinking feminine-incarnate for Grégoire Trudeau’s perfume when she watched yesterday’s media coverage of the first couple of Canada.
“The bold colours for her stunning hot pink-red dress in the morning and the richness of those colours into the evening—a striking purple-and-orange combination—my mind zoomed to hot spring flowers that pop but don’t overwhelm,” she mused.
Given the talent of her nose, Bendeth goes further: “I would have chosen Flower in the Air by Kenzo to whisk through the Oval Office and into a packed room of high-ranking guests,” she says.
“The scent is bold yet restrained, airy and elusive. With notes of raspberry, pink pepper, rose, magnolia, a touch of gardenia and white musk, it floats in a bubble without being garish. I think it would suit Ms. Grégoire Trudeau’s effervescent personality as well—exuberant yet contained.”
