Fresh & citrus fragrances for men under $100

Have your valet pop up and pick up one of these four summery citrus fragrances for men—all under $100. (Let him keep the change.)

When Clinique Happy for Men premiered in 1999, I romanced the citrus thing like nobody’s business, and still do. It was, I think, a direct result of an early-on obsession with Clinique. I thought I was smarter, more sophisticated—and better looking!—because I washed my face with a special bar of yellow soap and used a toner. Such urbanity! These four fresh and citrus fragrances under $100 are my new go-to choices when it comes to fresh scents and those laced with mandarin, bergamot and lime.

Citrus fragrances for men featuring the fresh scent Burberry Brit Splash. Vetiver subs in for citrus to bright effect.Fresh and citrus fragrances: Burberry Brit Splash for Men with vetiver

Top: Rosemary, melon, galbanum (an intense green scent)
Middle: Water, violet, cyclamen
Base: Musk, moss, vetiver

A refreshing aquatic with bright vetiver opting in for the citrus; a nice beachy scent for the cottage, on the speedboat, for both lawn darts and the polo match. The cyclamen warms up the watery-ness.

Doug Wallace is a Toronto-based writer who began his fragrance wardrobe with a bottle of the now-iconic Geoffrey Beene Grey Flannel and hasn’t looked back. A big fan of scents by houses Lalique and Boucheron, he is currently having a fling with all-things-British, including Clive Christian, Floris and Penhaligon’s. He treasures the dusty shoulders of some of his more aged bottles just as much as he does the shiny young ones.
