Perfume for great TV characters
What perfume would Annalise Keating wear? Call us crazy, but we want to know what this season’s top TV characters might be spritzing.
We’re a couple weeks into the midseason premieres, which means plots are being set and tensions are rising for our favourite characters. As we delve deeper into the lives of the characters we sort of wish weren’t fictional, we imagine every part of their lives that led them to this moment—including their fragrance choice, too, of course.
Annalise Keating, How to Get Away with Murder
It’s been a rocky road for Annalise and her “Keating Five [students]” as we draw closer to the second season finale, but one thing rings true: Annalise Keating is still a force to be reckoned with in the courtroom. While we’re slowly learning more about her past and seeing her vulnerable side, she’s still powerhouse criminal lawyer Annalise Keating and she would definitely need a powerhouse fragrance to pair with her super-stylish courtroom wardrobe. For her, we imagine a fragrance that embodies her confidence, but is still feminine, like Dolce & Gabbana The One Essence.
The top notes of bergamot, mandarin citrus, lychee and peach are sparkling and juiciness, while the floral heart is refined and feminine; and the amber-and-vanilla base of amber resins is warm and solid. Perfect for this multi-faceted woman, one of this season’s favourite TV characters.

Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman, Better Call Saul
Before “s’all good man” turned into Saul Goodman, he was Jimmy McGill, a man desperately trying to find his way in the world of law while escaping his con artist criminal past (it’s funny how things come full circle). If we’ve learned anything from the Breaking Bad days, it’s that Jimmy/Saul wants to look like a real lawyer (technically, he is one), even if he doesn’t have the bankroll of one. We imagine that the years leading up to his rolling-in-dough serious criminal days were spent penny-pinching wherever possible, including with his scent.
So now for Jimmy, who just wants a piece of the pie, we imagine him wearing an inexpensive classic: Old Spice. With its notes of nutmeg, lemon, geranium, benzoin and musk, this scent really embodies that iconic cologne vibe that Jimmy would deem his go-to, especially on a public defender’s salary.
Old Spice Classic Cologne, $12 (188 ml), available at mass drugstores nationwide
Penny, The Big Bang Theory
We know that Sheldon would never wear a fragrance and has a moratorium on Leonard wearing one too, but Penny is the resident rule-breaker when it comes to Sheldon’s antics. For the original leading lady of the show, we know she’d choose something girly and likely a fruity-floral. Since we’ve seen her grow up over the last nine seasons and has a “real job” now, we’re leaning to Givenchy Live Irrésistible for the new Mrs. Hofstadter.
Pineapple, rose petals, Jamaican allspice berries, amber and musk meld together here: It’s a spicy-sweet cocktail to go with Penny’s sunny demeanour and quick wit.
