$28,000,000,000 global fragrance industry – perfume by the numbers

The next time you reach for your favourite perfume, consider this: The global fragrance industry is valued at a cool $28 billion. That figure, believe it or not, is
greater than the GDP of Jamaica, Iceland and Belize, combined.
And it’s growing. According to the business and tech-minded website Perfumer & Flavorist, the worldwide fragrance market is expected to hit approximately $45.6
billion by 2018, driven, it says “primarily by growth expected in the underpenetrated emerging markets and innovative product launches.”
That’s a lot of eau. Research company Euromonitor also attributes future growth to global urbanization as well as growth in the youth and men’s scent categories.
